The Ethiopian Jews
The story of the Ethiopian Jews is one of courage, faith, and an extraordinary journey home to Israel after centuries of isolation in Ethiopia. Facing famine, war, and persecution, thousands undertook dangerous journeys on foot through Sudan in the hope of reaching Israel. In the 1980s and 1990s, Israel carried out dramatic rescue missions, most notably the Operation Moses and Operation Solomon, which brought tens of thousands of Ethiopian Jews to safety and a new life in Israel. As a photojournalist, I had the privilege of documenting both historic operations, capturing deeply emotional moments of hope, reunion, prayer, and the remarkable human spirit of a community returning to its ancestral homeland.
