In December
2003, IAEJ composed and sent 10 letters to the
directors of various Departments of Education
in municipalities and locations with large Ethiopian
populations.
IAEJ requested information from each department
on: The number of Ethiopian students in Special
Education programs; the services offered to Ethiopian
parents of children in Special Education; and
the bureaucratic processes parents must negotiate.
Each letter was also copied to the Regional office
under whose jurisdiction the selected departments
fall. IAEJ's strategic unit is currently waiting
for responses to all letters, as the beginning
of a larger mapping project of national dimensions.
