Kav Ha'ofek is a 16 page,
full-color magazine published every 3 months
in Hebrew by IAEJ to raise awareness and provide
perspective on the various issues facing Ethiopian
immigrants in Israel to policy makers, social
justice organizations, and the Ethiopian activist
community.
The magazine is three quarters
through its first year of publication, and is
an integral part of IAEJ's struggle to increase
public understanding of the Ethiopian community,
its needs, and its desires.
Kav Ha'ofek also serves as an important conduit
for channeling information to decision makers,
government officials, non-profit organizations
and other parties with the interest and influence
to positively affect policy and programming
for Ethiopians in Israel. Kav Ha'ofek issues
in 2003 included articles on Employment, Budget
Cuts, Extra Hours for Immigrant Youth among
other issues vital to the community. An article
on PACT programming for Ethiopian citizens had
particular and immediate effects:
Parents and Children
Together (PACT) Program - The article assessed
the national early childhood development program's
efficacy for Ethiopian clients and program's
positive and negative aspects. Due to the impact
and communal response to the IAEJ piece, the
Joint Distribution Center (JDC), the organization
running PACT, decided to hold a full-day informational
session on the program and its evaluation processes.
The JDCwill continue to provide similar informational
sessions at regular intervals in the future.
