IAEJ
participated in a joint "Committee for Immigration
and Absorption" and "Committee for the
Position of Women" meeting in the Knesset.
Topics included: Ethiopian women's leadership
issues; the domestic problems that arise when
Ethiopian women advance beyond their spouses in
education and employment; the problem of Ethiopian
women forced to abandon courses of study that
could help them find employment, due to government
budget cuts.
These are extremely vital issues as only 38% of
Ethiopian women ages 25 -54 are currently in the
labor market in any form, as opposed to 68% of
other Israeli women. IAEJ will be a proactive
part of all future discussions on how to help
Ethiopian women bridge this gap.
